Sado Island is populated by rich and various fauna and flora, providing an ideal research field for the connectivity of forest, land and ocean ecosystems, and the interactions between nature and humans. Research conducted at the Sado Island Center for Ecological Sustainability is focused on developing an understanding of the ecosystem and subsequent conservation strategies using the unique natural resources of Sado Island.
Sado Island Center for Ecological Sustainability was established in 2019 and is comprised of four divisions: University Forest, Station for Toki and Ecological Restoration, Marine Biological Station and Office for Community Design. These divisions work in close cooperation to conduct ecological sustainability research and provide educational resources in ecology biodiversity and social studies.
